STUPID PASTOR : Synagogue Church release statement on building collapse, says it was an attack

The Synagogue Church of all Nations has released an official statement via their Facebook page on the building collapse within their premises on Friday September 12th which has so far claimed over 77 lives. They say it was an attack on the church and in particular, their leader, T.B Joshua and have vowed to reveal the persons behind it. (they shared this pic purportedly showing an aircraft close to the building minutes before the building collapse) Find the statement below.. Emmanuel – God is with us. The pain of one is the pain of all. It is indeed a sad and painful moment for the families and friends who have lost loved ones. It is equally so for us in The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (The SCOAN), under the leadership of Prophet T.B. Joshua. On Friday, September 12, 2014, at about 12:44pm, one of the buildings on The SCOAN property unexpectedly collapsed, tragically resulting in death and injury. Nigerians and citizens of other nations were affected. This incident was preceded by the appearance of a strange aircraft which flew very low over the building four times and then disappeared. Since the day of this incident, The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations, its members and partners, have worked in collaboration with the Nigerian, South African and other nations’ authorities to ensure that survivors are rescued, attended to with the best medical treatment, cared for in the most humane and hospitable manner and reunited with their families, while those who passed on - martyrs of the Kingdom of God - are retrieved, identified and treated respectfully. Amongst those we are working hand-in-hand with, are: The Federal Government of Nigeria, the Government of the Republic of South Africa, Lagos State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Ministry of Health - doctors and nurses, the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), the Red Cross, the Nigeria Police Force and various Non-governmental and humanitarian organisations and construction and engineering corporations. "It is very sad that inaccurate reports are coming from some quarters that we are not cooperating with the rescue teams and other agencies in collating information and providing assistance on the incident. Contrary to this, we want to categorically state that the church has provided assistance when and where required and continues to do so - good Christians are good citizens. We emphasise our commitment to cooperate with all relevant authorities in establishing the cause of the collapse of the building. The church views this tragedy as part of an attack on The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations and in particular, Prophet T.B. Joshua. In due course, God will reveal the perpetrators of this unfortunate tragedy. "We wish to express our gratitude to all who continue to work tirelessly, show their solidarity and share their condolences in this grievous time, particularly all Government and non-Governmental bodies mentioned above, Diplomatic Missions, National and International media houses, society groups, traditional rulers, all concerned citizens and the residents of our local community, Ikotun-Egbe. We equally appreciate all members and partners of The SCOAN and Emmanuel TV, along with Christians and clergy worldwide for their prayers and support. To all those who lost family members and loved ones, please accept our heart-felt commiserations. No one knows by the present sign or situation what the future holds. We must therefore live each day as if it were our last and leave tomorrow’s trouble for the One who bore our troubles on the cross. We thank God for the martyrs and we pray for the family members and loved ones left behind."

NEWS : Female soldier sprayed BRT vehicles with petrol – Witness

BRT Buses in flame
A witness at the ongoing inquiry into the July 4 Ikorodu Road mayhem, Mr. Razak Mustapha, told the three-man panel on Wednesday that a female soldier sprayed the Bus Rapid Transit vehicles with petrol.
Some BRT vehicles were reportedly set ablaze at Palmgrove Bus Stop on July 4, 2014 during a mayhem that occupied the public place for more than three hours.
The incident was caused by the death of a soldier.
Mustapha, an employee of Mutual Model Transport Ltd., a sub-operator of the LAGBUS, gave the testimony before the retired Justice Ebenezer Adebajo-chaired tribunal.
The tribunal had been charged with the duty of investigating the said mayhem.
Mustapha told the panel that on July 4, he was assigned by his company to tow a BRT vehicle that had broken down at Palmgrove.
According to Mustapha, their mission was to return the vehicle which broke down to the BRT depot.
Mustapha said that while he attempting to start the bus, he discovered a corpse inside the vehicle and immediately informed his colleague.
He told the tribunal that he and his colleague rushed out of the vehicle and made a phone call to his boss, giving an account of what he saw.
Mustapha said that while he was waiting for further directive, a man approached the bus, climbed in, apparently to see the corpse.
According to Mustapha, it was the man that later informed some soldiers who were passing by that the corpse of a soldier was lying in the bus.
Mustapha said, “They (the soldiers) entered the bus. They saw the body and checked his identity card. They assigned two soldiers to guard the bus and left.
“When they came back, they started vandalising the bus. A female soldier came and she started pouring fuel inside the bus.
“After that I saw three buses, one in blue colour and two in red colour on fire.”
Giving his own version of the story, a mechanic, Umeaku, who was with Mustapha at the time of the incident, told the tribunal Mustapha told him there was a dead man inside the bus.
He said, “I did not see the body. It was Mustapha who told me.”
The further hearing in the matter was adjourned till September 18, 2014 (today).
Men of the Nigerian Army and the relatives of the deceased soldier are expected to give their own testimonies in the matter today.

NEWS : Fuel queues may resurface by weekend

Motorists in a queue at a filling station in Lagos.
Queues of motorists at petrol filling stations may resurface at the weekend if the ongoing strike by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation branches of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria is not called off.
The strike, which commenced on Monday, was as a result of the withdrawal of the operating licence of the NNPC/Department of Petroleum Resources’ closed pension scheme.
A source in the industry, who did not want to be quoted, said if things were not resolved, queues might reappear at filling stations nationwide by the weekend.
The Lagos Zonal Chairman, NUPENG, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, told our correspondent on the telephone that the products at most filling stations were from private tank farms, except for reserves from some NNPC partially or fully-run tank farms.
He said tank farms with any form of collaboration with the NNPC were also not loading, but added that meetings were still ongoing with the NNPC management to resolve the problem.
According to Korodo, if the talks fail, the unions may call for solidarity support from all union members in the industry, which will result in a total shutdown of industry operations.
“We want to make this clear. It is not Nigerians that are the problems. We don’t want to unnecessarily punish Nigerians. The point is that if the NNPC continues to neglect our demands, we will then call for the solidarity support and ground all operations.”
Also speaking, the Chairman, DPR branch of PENGASSAN, Mr. Amba Ndoma-Egba, said there was no going back on the strike, adding, “All NNPC/DPR facilities nationwide have been shut, including the offices.”
He also said, “This action will continue until all our demands are met. This action by these unions will soon cause fuel scarcity as the DPR is in charge of clearing of vessels that bring imported petroleum products into the country.
“We also gathered that the NNPC unions have also asked their members in all the refineries and the PPMC depots nationwide to down tools, which has also compounded the problem.”
He said all PENGASSAN and NUPENG staff members had been withdrawn from the terminals, depots and jetties nationwide.
Ndoma-Egba lamented paying lip service by the government to the issues affecting the DPR in spite of the strategic place it occupied in revenue generation in the country.
The spokesperson of the DPR branch of PENGASSAN, Mr. Michael Kambi, confirmed on Wednesday that the strike would continue until the licence was restored as the workers could not afford to go to the open pension scheme, where pension funds had been growing wings.

NEWS : Synagogue’s death toll hits 80, Lagos begins probe

LAGOS State Government Wednesday said the Synagogue Church building collapse of last Friday is under investigation to unravel the cause of the disaster, even as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said that no fewer than 80 bodies had been evacuated from the site. State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lateef Ibirogba told The Guardian Wednesday that the government would not preempt cause of the incident, but leave all options open until the investigation has been completed. Ibirogba said this as his counterpart in ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olutoyin Ayinde, reiterated that the Six-floor Guest House of the Synagogue Church for All Nations did not have building approval. Ayinde added that there was however, no plan to shut the premises. South West Information Officer of NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, said at about 5p.m., 17 more bodies were recovered, bringing the total number to 80. None has been rescued alive in the last 24 hours. The number of survivors, however, remains 131. This is coming as South African Government spokesman Mac Maharaj said the government believed around 300 South Africans from four to five groups were visiting the church last Friday but it was not clear how many were on the spot when the tragedy struck. “It’s a very popular church with South Africans,” Maharaj said, adding that the regular influx of visitors from abroad for the church’s services, which can last up to a week, creates demand for accommodation that the church’s own guest house has been unable to meet, and often spills over into local hotels. Meanwhile, wife of the President, Patience Jonathan, has commiserated with families of the victims of the collapsed building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations at Ikotun Egbe, Lagos A statement by her media assistant, Ayo Adewuyi, said she was moved by the news that majority of those who died were women and children. She also expressed sadness over the incident and offered her condolences to the families of the victims and the General Overseer of the church, Pastor T.B. Joshua. “As the mother of the nation, my thoughts are with you and the entire congregation at this time of your grief,” the statement read in part. Ibirogba said the investigating team is currently examining all probable causes, adding that the government was not unaware of “the attempt to colour our perception by attributing the incident to Boko Haram.” He hinted that the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development had demanded from officials of the Synagogue Church to present documents of approvals on the collapsed structure as part of the investigation. Ibirogba said: “The government will make her position known once all of these possibilities have been examined. Now, we are not pre-empting anything to make statement in haste. As you know, rescue efforts are still ongoing and still inconclusive. It is all part of the process we are considering,” he said. Ayinde stressed that no plans were in the offing to take over the collapsed structure site until thorough and detailed investigation as to the cause(s) of the collapse has been concluded. He stressed that Government does not arbitrarily take over properties when investigation is still on going. He noted that government is conducting a preliminary investigation into the cause(s) of the collapse and would leave no stone unturned and if there is any violation of relevant planning law, residents are assured that government would take appropriate action. On the veracity of the “Strange Plane Theory”, alleged to have dangerously flown low over the building fifty minutes before the collapse, the Ministry had submitted the video clips, as provided by the Church to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) with the coordinate of the collapsed site for investigation and professional comment. On the statement credited to President Jacob Zuma that no fewer than 67 South Africans perished in the building collapse, Ibirogba said the basis on which the statement had been made is still unknown and could not be validated as correct or incorrect until investigation had been completed. The commissioner for physical planning expressed condolences and sympathy with those that lost their loved ones and those that were injured in the unfortunate incident. He said the government and indeed the Ministry was particularly saddened that innocent lives were lost. President Jacob Zuma had said at least 67 South Africans died in Friday’s accident at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos and described it as one of the worst tragedies in South Africa’s recent history. Zuma’s tally however, conflicted with that of the NEMA. There was no immediate explanation for the discrepancy. Pretoria described the search and rescue operation as “very fluid” but defended the credibility of its count of 67 dead, saying it was based on records and information on the ground from five tour groups that had arranged for South African worshippers to go to Lagos. “This number is based on credible information,” foreign ministry spokesman Clayson Monyela said. Late on Tuesday Zuma told the SABC national broadcaster that an unknown number of South Africans were “not yet accounted for” and that the nation needed to “grieve together.” The statement also quoted Mrs. Jonathan as saying it was a needless tragedy at this crucial time in the nation and for those who‎ had gone to the sanctuary to seek the face of the Lord. She also prayed for God to console families of the victims and grant the souls of the dead a peaceful rest. “Dame Patience Jonathan also prayed that God in his infinite mercy grant the congregation the fortitude to bear the loss of the faithful and assuage the pains of those left behind,” the statement read.

NEWS : NDLEA recovers drugs from S’Africa football coach

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, have arrested a South African football coach, Steven Darlugar, for drug trafficking.
The 38-year-old suspect was said to have been arrested during the screening of Arik Air passengers on board to South Africa.
It was gathered that Darlugar, who coaches a football team in South Africa, had neatly packaged the drugs weighing 1.54 kilogrammes in a compartment before the officials at the airport unravelled his gimmick. The drugs, it was learnt, tested positive for methamphetamine.
While confessing to the crime, the father of one said he took to smuggling to augment his income, adding that he would have made a proceed of $6,000 if he had succeeded in carrying out the crime.
“I am married with a child and have lived in South Africa for about a decade. I coach a team in South Africa. I have worked very hard to attain financial freedom, but have nothing in return. This is my first time of smuggling drugs. I was under financial pressure to cope with peers. A friend introduced me to drug trafficking as a way of making quick money. They promised to pay me $6,000 to take the bag containing the drugs to South Africa.”
The agency’s commander at the MMIA, Mr. Hamza Umar, confirmed the crime.
He said, “Dalugar was apprehended on his way to South Africa. He was found in possession of 1.54kg of substances that tested positive for methamphetamine. The drug was concealed in a false compartment of the suspect’s luggage.”
The NDLEA Chairman, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, called on members of the public to support the agency in its efforts to phase out drug trafficking in the country. He added that the suspect would be charged to court at the end of the investigation.
He said, “We have made remarkable improvement in our counter-narcotic efforts. The agency is prepared to detect hidden drugs and prosecute the drug barons. Members of the public should avoid drug trafficking and report suspected cases to the agency. This way, a good measure of drug control will be achieved in the country. The suspect will be charged to court soon.”
